SAMARKAND, 2 June 2026 鈥 集美麻豆 has expanded its international climate change network into Central Asia through a strategic partnership with the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), Uzbekistan.
The partnership formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during Eco-Expo 2026 at the Silk Road Samarkand Congress Center.
Director of IPI 集美麻豆, Associate Professor Dr. Zaini Sakawi, said the collaboration represents an important milestone in strengthening 集美麻豆鈥檚 international network in climate change research, capacity building, academic exchange, and scientific publication.
鈥淭his partnership creates opportunities for both institutions to share expertise and resources in advancing climate change research and supporting sustainable development initiatives in Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
鈥淎s an institution committed to climate change research, 集美麻豆, through IPI, continuously seeks to expand strategic international collaborations to develop evidence-based solutions for global climate challenges.
鈥淏y combining the strengths and expertise of both institutions, we are confident that this collaboration will generate significant impact in advancing knowledge, research, and policy development related to climate change,鈥 he said.
Through the MoU, both institutions will undertake several strategic initiatives, including the development of a national climate data repository for Uzbekistan, which will serve as a critical platform for climate research, evidence-based policymaking, and climate adaptation planning.
He added that the collaboration will also facilitate hands-on training programmes in climate modelling, enabling researchers, academics, and students to strengthen their technical competencies in climate projections and climate impact assessment.
鈥淚n addition, both institutions will promote student mobility programmes to encourage academic exchange, cross-cultural engagement, and research opportunities between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
鈥淛oint research projects and publications in high-impact indexed journals will also be a key focus of the partnership, aimed at enhancing the global visibility of research outputs from both institutions,鈥 he explained.
Meanwhile, Rector of Green University, Professor Dr. Bakhtiyor Pulatov, said the strategic collaboration would serve as an important platform for enhancing the university鈥檚 research capacity and expanding knowledge exchange with one of Southeast Asia鈥檚 leading universities.
鈥淭his partnership not only strengthens academic ties between Uzbekistan and Malaysia but also contributes to the advancement of research in environmental sustainability, climate change, and green technologies, which are increasingly important in today鈥檚 world,鈥 he said.
The signing of the MoU during Eco-Expo 2026 reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing climate science, promoting academic excellence, and supporting global efforts towards environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
