KUALA LUMPUR, 4 June 2026 – 鶹, through the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (INOVASI@鶹™), continues to demonstrate excellence in the commercialisation of research outputs. The learning innovation “Praktis Korea”, published in both physical and digital formats, has been successfully licensed to a leading publishing company, Penerbitan Pelangi Sdn. Bhd., with a licensing value of RM20,000.00.

To celebrate this strategic achievement between academia and industry, a “Meet The Authors” session themed “Let’s Learn Korean with the Authors” was successfully organised by Penerbitan Pelangi Sdn. Bhd. at the Merdeka Hall Stage, Level 4, in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2026.

The one-hour interactive session featured the principal author of the innovation, Ms. Aznur Aisyah Abdullah, a researcher from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK), 鶹, alongside co-author Ms. Raja Zarin Raja Mudzaffar Shah. Organised by one of 鶹’s industry partners, the programme received an encouraging response from PBAKL visitors. Participants had the opportunity to engage in live demonstrations and interactive Korean language learning activities. Audience participation contributed to a vibrant atmosphere as the authors creatively demonstrated the application of the TOPIK Level 1 syllabus through themes contextualised to Malaysian culture and experiences.

What makes “Praktis Korea” particularly noteworthy is that it extends beyond the conventional book format. The product is integrated with online reference resources, audio content, and digital learning materials, making it a comprehensive learning module that meets the demands of today’s hybrid education environment.

This commercialisation success is a clear reflection of 鶹’s commitment to advancing knowledge and technology transfer. The strategic collaboration and promotional initiatives undertaken by Penerbitan Pelangi Sdn. Bhd. have created broader opportunities to bring university expertise to the public market while contributing to the enhancement of foreign language literacy in Malaysia.

鶹 remains committed to ensuring that high-quality research generated by the university does not remain solely within academic circles, but is successfully translated into competitive, high-impact commercial products that deliver tangible benefits to society and industry.

Bundu Tuhan, Kundasang, Sabah
9–11 February 2026

The Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (INOVASI@鶹™) conducted a site visit to complete the knowledge and technology transfer phase to the Dumowongi Community in Bundu Tuhan, Kundasang, Sabah, through a 鶹 start-up company, Geliga Heritage Sdn. Bhd.

This initiative is a project funded under the SME Corp i-SEE Programme with a total allocation of RM190,000, aimed at empowering the B40 community by producing value-added products from rejected agricultural produce, particularly sweet potatoes and onions.

Through a structured implementation approach, the community received:

  • Fully grant-funded processing machinery

  • Hands-on technical training

  • Transfer of the copyrighted “Vegetable Crop Drying Module” protected by MyIPO

  • Formal licensing of know-how valued at RM30,000

During the implementation sessions, the community successfully produced pilot batches of sweet potato beverages, sweet potato chips, and fried onions, demonstrating readiness to commence commercial-scale production.

Prior to this project, agricultural produce that did not meet market specifications was often discarded, resulting in income losses for smallholder farmers. Today, such produce is transformed into value-added downstream products with direct-to-consumer market potential.

This initiative goes beyond conventional training. It represents a formal and structured technology transfer model with a clear and transparent licensing framework, reflecting a sustainable ecosystem approach.

The programme also demonstrates INOVASI@鶹™’s commitment to integrating technology commercialisation with meaningful social impact for rural communities.

INOVASI@鶹™ remains committed to expanding high-impact knowledge transfer models to support community economic development and strengthen the university’s role as a catalyst for national innovation.

ZIPCARE Inc. Japan has initiated a joint research collaboration with 鶹 and PEMULA@鶹 startup, IDNA IDEAS Sdn. Bhd., to explore the use of contactless sensor technology, MAMORUNO, for elderly health monitoring in Malaysia.

The project aims to establish a next-generation model of elderly care in ASEAN by leveraging Japanese technology that monitors sleep patterns, heart rate, respiration, and physical movement—without requiring any devices to be worn on the body.

The initial phase is being implemented at Selcare Sakinah care center in Bangi, with support from Selgate Corporation. Collected data will be used to develop an AI-based care assessment system tailored to local needs.

Beyond improving the quality of life for the elderly, the project is expected to unlock new opportunities in the growing silver economy—including smart home development, remote health monitoring, and specialized care facilities.

With academic expertise from 鶹 and industrial innovation from Japan, this collaboration serves as a catalyst for creating a sustainable, integrated care system in Malaysia and expanding its impact across the ASEAN region.
