集美麻豆 Confers Honorary Doctorate on Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 August 2024 鈥 集美麻豆 has conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Social Business on Chief Adviser of the Government of the People鈥檚 Republic of Bangladesh, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, in a special convocation ceremony held today.

The honorary doctorate degree was presented by 集美麻豆 Chancellor, Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.

集美麻豆 vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sufian Jusoh congratulated Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus for his remarkable dedication to advancing social progress and for the transformative contributions he has made to the people鈥檚 republic of Bangladesh.

鈥淧rof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus stands as a prominent exemplar of transformative leadership, guided by integrity and good governance, and the conviction that the economy is only solid when it serves the needs of everyone.

鈥淭his visionary effort was recognized not only by the people of Bangladesh but also the international community, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006,鈥 he said. 

Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus relationship with 集美麻豆 was further strengthened through the establishment of the Yunus Centre for Social Business at 集美麻豆, which plays an important role in promoting social business in Malaysia and the surrounding region.

He is a globally renowned economist and humanitarian, best known as the founder of Grameen Bank and a pioneer of the concepts of microcredit and social business.

Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus has received 67 honorary degrees from universities in 26 countries and has appeared on the covers of TIME, Newsweek, and Forbes magazines. In 2012, Fortune Magazine named him one of the most outstanding entrepreneurs of our time.

He is the author of bestselling books such as Banker to the Poor and Building Social Business.

In 2024, he was appointed Chief Advisor to the People鈥檚 Republic of Bangladesh to lead the country鈥檚 institutional, democratic, and economic reforms.
