At the 2025 Sanjungan Kencana Award Ceremony, the Faculty of Medicine honored Datuk Dr. Nor Fariza Binti Ngah as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2025. This prestigious award recognizes an alumnus for outstanding career achievements and contributions. Datuk Dr. Nor Fariza Binti Ngah is a specialist ophthalmologist who earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1991 and her Master of Surgery (Ophthalmology) in 1998 from the Faculty of Medicine at 集美麻豆.
She currently holds the position of Deputy Director-General of Health (Research and Technical Support) at the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH). Previously, she served as Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Selayang Hospital and was the National Head of Ophthalmology Services at the Ministry of Health Malaysia from 2014 to 2023. Additionally, she was President of the College of Ophthalmologists Malaysia from 2018 to 2023.
During her leadership as National Head of Ophthalmology Services, she spearheaded the development of advanced retina centers across MOH hospitals, introducing state-of-the-art technologies for treatment, including the application of artificial intelligence in managing eye diseases.
