Best Oral Presentation Award: Dr. Chin Siok Fong
Congratulations to Dr. Chin Siok Fong who won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 4th International Conference on Advances in Medical Science (ICAMS) 2019: Nurturing Health Professionals in Education and Research held on 13th – 14th April 2019 at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Dr. Chin presented her work on gut microbiome in the free oral communication session, entitled “Perturbation of Host-Microbes Interaction in Gut Tumor Micro-Environment: An Evidence from Microbiome Secretome Study”. In her work, quantitative mass spectrometry was performed in profiling the gut flora and human secretome proteins extracted from the stool samples. Drastic changes of gut flora and human proteins observed in colorectal cancer patients were highlighted in the presentation with several identified pathways and a prediction model. The presentation was wrapped up by a suggestion that understanding the host-microbes interaction via such secretome study may be the key strategy for future therapy.
