UMBI Visits UMS to Explore Research Collaboration

To consolidate the research collaboration between the Research Universities (RUs) and the non-RUs, the Ministry of Education has established a program called Regional Collaboration in Research and Publications (RCRP). ¼¯ÃÀÂ鶹’s partners under this program is UPSI, USIM and the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). UMBI took the initiative to kick-start this RCRP program by sending a delegation to visit the UMS on the 20-21st October 2014, led by the director and accompanied by Professor Dato’ Dr. Wan Zurinah, Professor Madya Dr. Norfilza Mokhtar, Professor Madya Dr. Roslan Harun and Professor Madya Dr. Raja Affendi Raja Ali and Mrs Farliza Zakaria.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Dr. Shahril Yusof, hosted the opening day session at the Senate Room located within the Chancellory Building. The DVC warmly welcomed the team from UMBI and presented the resources, strengths and potential available at the UMS. All 5 delegates from UMBI made presentations on their current research work and highlighting the opportunities for collaboration. This was followed by presentation by the UMS team members. The DVC hosted the UMBI’s delegates to a sumptuous dinner. The next day, the team visited the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Biotechnology Research Institute and the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation. The facilities, collections, research initiatives at the 3 institutions were really fantastic. Some key resolutions were made and also many proposals for research collaborations were put on the table. We look forward to the collaborative research with UMS.
