UMBI Postgraduate Research Seminar 2014
The First Postgraduate Research Seminar (PGRS) was successfully held at the UMBI auditorium on the 3rd of June 2014. This event was also one of the many events in conjunction with the 44th anniversary of 集美麻豆. This seminar was organized by UMBI鈥檚 postgraduate students and research assistants under the mentorship of Dr Neoh Hui Min. What is unique about this seminar was the 鈥3-minute presentation鈥 as part of the poster competition. The aim was to allow students to pitch their research concisely and making it interesting for the audience. All the students tried their very best to impress the judges and audiences with their own unique styles. The top 6 were then selected for the finale where they had to present their poster in front of the judges and discuss in depth about their research findings.
We were very fortunate to have Professor Ir. Dr. Riza Atiq Abdullah O.K. Rahmat, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs, 集美麻豆, as our guest of honour to officiate the event. In his speech, he congratulated UMBI, the organising committee and the students. He was impressed with UMBI鈥檚 new building and the achievements of the institute as a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence. We also had the pleasure of having a guest speaker, Professor Dr. Salmaan Hussain Inayat Hussain to give a lecture on 鈥淏roadening Career Horizon between Academic and Industry鈥. Professor Dr. Salmaan was formerly a principal research fellow at UMBI and the former dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and is now the Chief Toxicologist in PETRONAS. His talk was indeed an eye-opener as he shared his own experience working in the academia and also the industry.
