Key Finding on Apoptosis
The toxicology research team headed by Professor Dr. Salmaan Inayat Hussain (Principal Research Fellow at UMBI and a professor of toxicology at the Faculty of Health Sciences) together with his international collaborators published new findings on apoptosis.
This was one of the projects under the Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) program. The Fau gene is a potential tumour suppressor gene and the downregulation of Fau has been shown to inhibit apoptosis. The team discovered that the protection of hydroquinone-induced apoptosis by downregulation of Fau is mediated by NQO1. The findings were reported in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine (Q1 and IF 5.7).
