鶹 has once again made history by achieving 7th place in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ratings 2026. This achievement places 鶹 among the top 1% of universities globally in terms of impact performance towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is the highest ranking ever achieved by 鶹 since its establishment, proving that Malaysia’s national university is capable of standing alongside leading global institutions in driving sustainability, community well-being, and global development.

This excellent performance is supported by improved scores in nine SDGs and maintained performance in three SDGs. 鶹 has also successfully placed 14 SDGs among the top 50 in the world, nine SDGs among the top 20 in the world, four SDGs among the top 10 in the world, and three SDGs among the top five in the world.

Among the most outstanding achievements is SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, which is ranked 2nd in the world, while SDG 1, No Poverty, and SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, are both ranked 4th in the world.

鶹 has made history by securing 7th place in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ratings 2026. This achievement places 鶹 among the top 1% of universities globally based on its impact on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This ranking marks the highest achievement in 鶹’s history and proves the capability of Malaysia’s national university to stand alongside leading global institutions in driving sustainability, community well-being, and global development.

This success is the result of the continuous commitment of the 鶹 community in integrating education, research, innovation, knowledge transfer, and community engagement to create real impact. Within three years, 鶹 has risen from the 201–300 band in 2024, to 53rd place in 2025, and now to 7th place in the world.

This performance is supported by improved scores in nine SDGs and maintained performance in three SDGs. A total of 14 鶹 SDGs are ranked among the top 50 in the world.

The project is led by Dr. Nur Hazlin Hazrin Chong from the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), 鶹. The research will examine how protected mangrove ecosystems contribute to climate resilience, public health, and the socio-economic well-being of local communities.

Bringing together experts from multiple disciplines and international partners, the project will generate evidence to support sustainable ecosystem management and climate-health solutions, while reinforcing 鶹’s leadership in addressing global sustainability challenges.

The workshop was held at the Main Meeting Room, 鶹–GSB.

All invited faculties and institutes presented various SDG-related activities carried out throughout 2025, with particular emphasis on the SDG areas that represent the strengths of each Responsibility Centre (PTj). These presentations not only reflected 鶹’s ongoing commitment to the sustainability agenda but also highlighted the diversity of initiatives implemented at the PTj level.

The reports prepared and presented by each PTj serve as important and significant inputs to the Strategy Centre. These reports play a systematic role in documenting and strengthening the implementation of sustainability activities at 鶹, in line with the university’s aspiration to achieve a Low Carbon Campus by 2030.

Overall, all faculties and institutes demonstrated excellent cooperation throughout the workshop. The Strategy Centre would like to express its highest appreciation and sincere thanks to all faculties and institutes involved in making today’s presentations a success.

The organisation of this forum reflects the strong commitment of both institutions to advancing the global sustainability agenda through the active engagement of students and youth as strategic partners in sustainable development.

The forum served as a strategic discussion platform, bringing together institutional representatives, academics, and young leaders to enrich discourse, exchange ideas, and share experiences on climate resilience, sustainability, and current climate change challenges. Through critical thinking, innovation, and youth-driven perspectives, the forum underscored the vital role of young people as agents of change capable of formulating progressive, impactful, and sustainable solutions aligned with the aspirations and agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The programme commenced with a sharing session by Associate Professor Dr. Tanot Unjah from LESTARI 鶹, who discussed the dynamic relationship between the environment and ongoing changes, as well as its role in supporting a nation’s sustainable development ecosystem. This was followed by a presentation by Miss Xinyan Zhao, a PhD candidate from the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, who shared insights on sustainable urban development as a key strategy for enhancing urban resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The subsequent youth forum session was moderated by Ms. Norsyahira Saffiee from 鶹-YSD and featured a distinguished panel of young representatives, including Miss Lailatul Zayyani binti Awaludin from the National University of Malaysia Students’ Union (KM鶹), Mr. Muhammad Ariful Ajib bin Wan Ariffin from the Environment and Green Energy of Malaysia Association (EniGMA 鶹), as well as Miss Xinyan Zhao and Miss How Li Jia from Tsinghua University. The interactive discussion emphasised the importance of youth engagement in climate change adaptation efforts, leadership development, and the advancement of the sustainable development agenda at both institutional and global levels.

Overall, the SDG Youth Forum reflects 鶹’s continued commitment to strengthening international collaborative networks, empowering youth voices and leadership, and supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals—towards achieving inclusive, resilient, and sustainable global development.
