In 2026, the theme proposed by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat is “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.†This global theme was selected to highlight the deep connection between wetlands and the cultural practices, traditions, and knowledge systems of communities around the world.

Malaysia is fortunate to possess a rich diversity of wetland ecosystems covering more than 5.19 million hectares. These ecosystems hold significant conservation value, providing economic benefits through natural resources and tourism, as well as delivering vital ecosystem services such as flood mitigation, water catchment, coastal protection, and carbon storage.

This achievement is even more significant considering the increase in global participation to 1,745 universities in 2025, compared to 1,477 in 2024, clearly demonstrating ¼¯ÃÀÂ鶹’s growing competitiveness on the international stage.

This progress reflects the effectiveness of the implementation of the ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ Sustainability Strategic Plan 2030, which emphasises sustainability-based operational management encompassing energy and water efficiency, the development of campus-wide green initiatives, systematic carbon management, as well as strengthening education, research, and innovation related to sustainable development. With a clear direction and ongoing leadership commitment, ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ will continue to drive excellence as a global reference campus in green transformation, inspiring communities within and beyond the nation to collectively build a more sustainable future.

The Law subject recorded the best position improvement, ranking 101-125 in the world and number 1 in Malaysia.

Additionally, among the subjects that ranked number 1 in Malaysia are Arts & Humanities, with all the evaluated disciplines also achieving first place, including Archaeology, Architecture and History, Philosophy, and Theology.

¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ continues to show remarkable progress by placing the Medicine & Health subject at number 2 in Malaysia, with two disciplines under it—Medicine & Dentistry ranked number 2 and Other Health subjects ranked number 3 in Malaysia.

Psychology is also a discipline that ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ is proud of, ranking third. Meanwhile, the Engineering subject, along with its 5 disciplines, also excelled, ranking third in Malaysia for 2025. Other disciplines that ranked third in Malaysia include Physics & Astronomy and Geography.

This recognition reflects the quality of academic expertise, the high commitment of university staff, and the excellence of the university as a result of the efforts of ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹’s community in carrying out their trust and responsibilities with distinction.

EKSA, or the Condusive Ecosystem for the Public Sector, is an initiative aimed at creating a more efficient, productive, and user-friendly work environment. Through EKSA, each PTj at ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ implements best practices to ensure that a conducive ecosystem is achieved.

The program, officiated by the Registrar, En. Hj Zanudin Mohd Daud, toured five stops involving several PTjs, which were Stop 1 (Islamic Centre), Stop 2 (Faculty of Islamic Studies), Stop 3 (Tun Seri Lanang Library and Forensics), Stop 4 (Career Centre and Student Affairs Centre), and Stop 5 (Corporate Communications Centre, Strategy Centre, Chancellor’s Foundation, Professional-UKM, and Jana@¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹).

Razak and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Mr. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ekhwan Hj. Toriman attended the opening ceremony of the Asian Universities Summit 2024 organized by Times Higher Education (THE AUS’ 24) which was held at Sunway University this morning.

This program was inaugurated by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. In his opening speech, he emphasized that the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) always prioritizes the success of students and ensures that each university remains focused on its own excellence. At the same time, YB Minister also recognized the ranking in the national higher education ecosystem, especially to increase competition and continuous improvement.

Besides that, the ranking will also be a benchmark among higher education institutes on the local or global stage to increase the prominence of cooperation and collaboration. After the inauguration, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry also spent time entertaining Sunway University students in the cafeteria.

He also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Sunway University and ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ to develop Sunway University’s Doctoral Medicine program which is expected to further strengthen the country’s health sector.

This collaboration involves the establishment, implementation and monitoring of the Doctoral Medicine program at the School of Medicine and Life Sciences, Sunway University where ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ will provide the syllabus and relevant study materials for this program for a period of six years.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked all parties, especially the Ministry of Higher Education, who always provided support and support in further boosting the excellence of the country’s higher education.

He is also optimistic that the collaboration between ¼¯ÃÀÂé¶¹ and the country’s leading IPTS such as Sunway University will open a new era in ensuring that high-quality education services can be achieved as best as possible.
