Starting Semester I 2015\/2016, the department offers two undergraduate programmes as stated below:<\/p>\n

- Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Honors\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n
- Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honors
\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nDuring the first 3 years, all students will have to take the same engineering core courses. During their final year, students will have to decide on which of the three programmes they will be specializing in. While studying, they will have the added bonus of 12 weeks Industrial Training worth of relevant work experience.<\/p>\n
All the programmes start with a broad-based foundation in Engineering allowing students to maintain the maximum possible flexibility. A common curriculum makes up a high percentage of the first three semesters of all the engineering undergraduate programmes. This stresses on subjects like mathematics, engineering sciences, together with computer programming, engineering drawing and English. The three departmental programmes also consists of common courses in the first three semesters. These courses include the subjects of circuit theory, electronic devices, digital electronics, electromagnetic fields and waves, electrical machines, electrical measurements and instrumentations.<\/p>\n
The undergraduate students will be streamed into the separate programmes from the fourth semester. The students opting for the general B.Eng(Electrical and Electronic) will still be able to select minor specialisations as listed above in their final year. The programme develops the electrical and electronic subjects further, with particular emphasis on communications, microprocessors, computers, signal processing and control.<\/p>\n
All the students are required to undergo industrial training at the end of their second year for a minimum period of 10 weeks for an exposure to the real engineering practice. The final year students study engineering management, carry out an individual project and study specialised subjects leading to their chosen specialisation.<\/p>\n
Teaching of the subjects is by means of lectures, tutorials, practical laboratory work, computer work, projects, seminars and industrial training. Laboratory work and computing practical are carried out in the afternoons. The laboratory work provides important support for the lecture modules. Students usually work in pairs on experiments covering a wide range of electronics fundamentals. Practical work begins with introductory experiments and small design projects. These design studies prepare the way for a large project in the final year. Computing skills, ranging from machine-level language through high-level languages to software engineering techniques form an integral part of the course. Another important aspect of the course is the tutorial class. Tutorials are given as a problem solving class<\/p>\n
